Did you ever drink chocolate milk as a kid? Maybe you had it each Saturday morning while you watched your favorite cartoons. Maybe it was a special treat when you went to a friend’s or cousin’s house. Maybe it was what you put in your Cheerio’s every morning, or had with lunch each afternoon. For most people, chocolate milk holds a special place in our childhood, and it most often gets left there.
We grow up, we get lactose intolerant, we avoid sugar…and chocolate milk, like a lot of life’s pleasures, gets left in the past.
It doesn’t have to. It can come back and can get elevated. I can not have lactose, or white sugar and still satisfy your soul, by bringing you back to a time when everything was simple and life was full of play.
Food memories are powerful triggers. When life is getting heavy and you crave some safety and child-like wonder: chocolate milk. Warm & Frothy Chocolate Hemp Milk, to be exact.
Warm & Frothy Chocolate Hemp Milk
Servings: 2 (or 1… if you’ve just started your period)
What you need: a high powered blender
- 2 cups warm water (or chai tea)
- 2 Medjool dates, pitted
- 2 tablespoons cacao powder
- 1/4 cup hulled hemp seeds
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, only if using water as a base)
- 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg (optional, only if using water as a base)
- 1 pinch of sea salt
Put all ingredients in a high-powered blender and blend until smoothe. Enjoy it hot (which is heavenly) or put it in the fridge then drink cold.
